The Old Maid and the Thief

"Soprano Judith Weusten is still growing vocally, but she leaves an impression with her comic acting, her projection, and most of all the daunting coloraturas that her lovestruck character is faced with halfway through the opera. She manages to produce good volume with them too. The opera's most important aria, 'What a curse for a woman is a timid man', falls upon Weusten's shoulders as well. Vocally she is still searching, but as the real aria breaks forth on the words 'Steal me', we hear a perfect performance."
